Sandisk dumped U3 Jul 19, 2010 I recently purchased a U3 device. I added a few core apps that I thought would be useful and decided to add some more... WRONG! Sandisk has discontinued U3, there is no support, no software, no options. Sandisk has flipped any users the bird and just killed the sites. No warnings, no archiving for current users, just dead links.
Thanks for nothing. DO NOT PAY EXTRA for U3! The only option is to uninstall U3 and install PortableApps from [...]. Rumor is it's a better product anyway.
Speedy Drive, but Case Design is Terrible Mar 25, 2010 I specifically needed a USB flash drive with fast read/write speeds, so I was willing to overlook the stupid case design. In a way, it looks sleek and stylish, but mechanically, it's a dismal failure. It's rather large and heavy, provides no place to attach a lanyard or a key ring (except on the supplied pouch), and in the first minute of testing the open/close mechanism, it stiffened up so much that it now takes two hands to operate (with great difficulty). I fear that I will break it or lose it soon. While it was still sliding freely, the USB connector would retract while plugging it in, so I had to hold it on the sides of the case to prevent my thumb from activating the mechanism.
In my opinion, the basic Cruzer has the PERFECT size, weight, shape, open/close mechanism, and secure attachment ring. I've had one attached to my key ring for many years, and it has always worked flawlessly. Why, oh why did they have to abandon that design and mess it up for their expensive flagship model?
I uninstalled the U3 stuff and reformatted the drive for max speed and capacity. The read/write performance is fantastic, and it outperforms the basic Cruzer by a long shot.
It does the job! May 15, 2009 The ScanDisk did the job with pleanty of space left. 8 gb was more than enough for my needs.
No complaints!
Great product Feb 17, 2009 I use this for the ReadyBoost in Vista and it works great. The main complaint is the design of opening the USB connector. But, since I leave it in all the time I have only had to mess around with that once.
Fast drive and high capacity Jan 22, 2009 I own this drive for almost a year and I'm very happy with it. It has a very high read/wright speed 25/18 which means if you have large files it'll go much faster than most other 8gb drives that's out there, which takes about 18 minutes transfering to the drive 3 gigs which the contour takes only 3 minutes or less. People complain about the size, but if you want the speed it's worth it. Bottom line: if you need a drive for large files, the contour is the right choice, but if you don't have very large files to transfer and it bothers you the size rather take the other cruzer.
