1Beautiful Monitor - Marred by poor support and backlight failure  Dec 18, 2009
The 245T is a beautiful wide gamut 24" monitor with a nice selection of inputs and a very nice adjustable base. It profiles very well using my Eye-One Proof hardware. There is an bit of a medium pitched buzz coming from the monitors electronics, an annoyance, but not a deal breaker.

However, Samsungs support for what is ostensibly a professional product is down right abysmal. After 1.5yrs my monitor began to suffer from partial backlight failure. After sending the 245T in for service I was informed it would be a while before they had the appropriate repair part. The monitor was out of my hands for 3 weeks before it was returned to me in a too large brown box (the service center apparently having destroyed the original packaging) and in no better shape then when I sent it in. In addition to the monitor still experiencing the same problem as I sent it in for, it came back to me with a scratch on the screen.

I've tried to resolve the situation with Samsung multiple times and each time am either re-directed to another department and told to 'send it in for repair' or simply ignored.

This is my last Samsung display.

5Nice color balance  Oct 25, 2009
I've had this monitor in service for almost a year. I was pretty much sold on Samsung after my very positive experience with one of their LCD televisions. Although I don't have a real calibration tool, I was able to get quite satisfactory color calibration using the built-in tools on my Mac. I get dependable color from camera all the way through to printer, largely a credit to the monitor itself. I do a lot of photo editing, and I appreciate the wide color gamut. Colors remain true at all viewing angles. I also appreciate the 4 USB-2 ports on the monitor--that saved me having to buy a hub.

Others have commented on some noise emitted by the monitor. I hear the slightest bit of hiss if I'm close. I'm sure I wouldn't hear it at all except for the fact that I have the computer tower in another room.

Both availability and price seem to be all over the map. There are long stretches when Amazon doesn't have it, and I've seen the price swing by as much as a hundred dollars. But if you can get it, it's a very nice thing to look at.

5I love this monitor and I should have bought it from the beginning  Oct 23, 2009
I ordered this monitor after I returned my previous monitor, the Samsung 2443BWT, because its viewing angle was too narrow. This finally is a monitor that I am happy with. Very happy with. I can pivot it, which is important because most of the photos I take are in portrait mode (I take pictures of models mostly). It has the highest resolution my Mac Mini can display (1920 x 1200). It is very bright and sharp. It has a matte screen. I think Apple's glossy monitors give too much glare, so I wanted a screen like this one. Most importantly, its viewing angle is finally acceptable. Now I can move my head within reason and the image does not change much. It was a little too bright and the reds were a little too strong at the beginning, but some tweaking took care of that. Most monitors require some tweaking when you first get them, so I don't have a problem with that. The only minor problem I have with this monitor is that you cannot alter the sharpness if you connect it to your computer through DVI. That's not bad because the image is very sharp as it is, like I said before. I actually want to give this monitor 4 and a half stars because of that, but Amazon doesn't let you give fractional stars.

5Great monitor!  Oct 09, 2009
I have been using it for a month and I am very happy with this monitor:
- no dead or stuck pixels,
- good, even backlight,
- sharp text, great colors, and a wide angle of viewing (S-PVA !)
- Far Cry looks and plays great in full resolution,
- no buzzing sound that some others reported,
- 1920 x 1200 is a lot of screen space comparing to my old 17" LCD (Samsung 173P),
- USB hub is built-in,
I have two computers connected (DVI and analog). I will probably add a third one over HDMI.
There is a front button to switch signal sources - very convenient. I have a separate USB switch to move mouse and keyboard.
Per instructions, use MPA for movies only. I can see a screen flicker when MPA is on for normal desktop viewing.
A few nitpicks:
- the top is getting quite warm,
- the bezel is glossy, looks cheap, and reflects text at the edges,
- the bottom edge cannot be pushed all the way down (there is a 3" gap),
- the screen is very bright - I have the brightness down to 5 (out of 100)

Overall, this monitor is worth the higher price.

5Very impressed - but I got a bad one the first time  Sep 04, 2009
I did a lot of searching for a 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor. I read hundreds of reviews from amazon and other retailer sites like new-egg. Since I was not able to see most of these in the store, I had to go on reviews. Well, thankfully, this monitor is exactly as I expected. It is quick (I do play a few games like Crysis) and sharp and the colors are very nice. It comes pretty bright, and I had to turn it down - not a bad thing becuase I would rather have it too bright than too dim! The thing really rotates vertically very nicely, and has software to turn the view, too. I haven't figured out if it can do it automaticaly yet, but my guess is it can. It has 4 USB plugs on the side, too. They are inset a bit so the wires don't show at the left edge.

All-in-all, it's a great monitor. No stuck pixels after a week of use. I couldn't be happier. I'm glad I paid extra to get this better screen. Also, comes with a 3 YEAR MANUFACTURER WARRANTY - something I don't see mentioned in the Amazon write up.

-------------UPDATE 9/8/09 ------------
Well the monitor started to blink off and on at randome times, and sometimes it would dim and come back. Tried swapping it with another monitor and it's definitly this Samsung with the problem. (My Dad says it much be Vista, but he's an Apple guy. Need I say more?) Amazon is sending another next-day shipping, which is why I didn't get this from somewhere else - you can't beat Amazon's return policy.

Hopefully this new one will not have a failure. I still really like this montitor - I just must have gotten a bad one.
-------------Update 10/5/09------------
Monitor is working wonderfully. Guess I had a dud on the first one. Both the first one and the 2nd one had NO stuck pixels, and both are completely quiet - no buzzing that I have read about from some reviewers. The response time runnign games is instantanious to my eyes. I'm impressed. Glad I spent the extra $$$
