Linksys Ultra RangePlus, Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there's the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. We've also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses a dual-band version of the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios for each band, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signals travel farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.

4Awesome 2.4, not quite as good on the 5Ghz band  Mar 17, 2010
My home network had spotty coverage on the 2.4GHz band using an Airlink 101 wireless router (AR525W) and a belkin repeater, so I wanted something that had much improved range, and I wanted to add 802.11n on the 2.4GHz band for my wife's laptop. I installed this and I got 2.4GHz coverage over my entire house - I was extremely impressed with the range and signal strength I was receiving. I even get signals in places that used to be dead spots, so I'm quite pleased with the router.

Unfortunately, the performance on the 5GHz band is not as good as the 2.4GHz. My network was previously using two Netgear WNHDE111's for the 5GHz band -- one configured as an access point, and the other configured as a bridge that I plugged my xbox 360 and playstation 3 into so I could stream media to them in the living room at higher speeds. When I first installed the linksys I took down the netgear AP but left the bridge online so I could still get wireless n on my gaming consoles. Unfortunately, the system would stutter when I started streaming media from windows media center. I put the netgear AP back in and set the netgear equipment up using a new SSID and got my performance back. Since the antennas are internal, there's not much that can be done to improve the 5GHz performance other than move my equipment closer to the center of the house. :(

4Excellent Upgrade  Mar 14, 2010
I bought this to upgrade from an older Linksys router due to an ever-expanding home network. It was not quite as easy to setup as I thought it was going to be, but once up and running I can see a noticeable improvement in performance, especially during peak periods when multiple computers are on the Internet and the XBox is on Live simultaneously.

Cons: The shared storage was difficult to setup and the USB port cannot be used for printer sharing.

1Check the Support Page to Verify Bad Product  Mar 14, 2010
Save yourself grief as this product is a documented lemon on Cisco's own site. The support people in India try to help but cannot admit this router is jinxed. As my internet connection was working perfectly with a 5 year old WRT54G, I thought moving up to an N unit would enhance my range and free up the old unit for another location. But no, the WRT610N has a nasty random failure mode that may result from some of the following issues: 1. New Cisco corporate policy on shaving pennies from chip, board, or antenna costs. 2. Proliferation of crapware on the installation disk. 3. Corporate partner agreements that sabotage competitor sites. 4. Outsourced or disgruntled firmware programmers, or all of the above. Cisco has been aware of this for almost a year, and is in denial, so I would also advise selling any Cisco stock holdings.

5Outstanding Product  Mar 12, 2010
I think things have changed. The reviews I've read prior to purchase said NOT to use the accompanied software to set it up. Now they include a "temporary" copy of their Network Magic software to help you install it. It expires in seven days, but it was a breeze to use to get the network set up. I plugged in the CD and followed the steps. It explains everything clearly. What your choices are and what the consequences of each choice is. It really took about 5-10 minutes to get it up and running.

I choose to enable lock out. So to get my PS3 in the loop I had to plug the information into it and get it searching for a network and get the router looking for other things to add simultaneously. Once they found each other I re-enabled lock out.

I plan to go ahead and pay the $40 to keep Network Magic. It not only helped to set up the network but it has other functions that I think are worth it. Montioring, tracking usage, tracking intrusion, reports on usage. It can take snapshots on demand or at predetermined intervals of other computers history in your network.

Great product with great software!

5This router rocks!!  Mar 11, 2010
I bought this router to replace an old pre n router that had problems resetting its IP address if there was ever any glitch in the power feed. This router currently does everything that I could ask and no problems found yet.
