Invalid URL & DNS issues, No fixes from Linksys by Cisco Mar 08, 2010 Shortly after I started using the Linksys by Cisco WRT310N router I started getting invalid URL error messages from both my wired desktop and wireless laptop. Very annoying. When I connect my desktop directly to my service provider's modem everything works fine. Hook the router back up and I start getting invalid URL error messages again. I searched the web but could not find a solution. I searched Linksys by Cisco's customer support site and found other people having the same problem. NOT a good sign. I could not find a solution at Linksys by Cisco's customer support web site. A worse sign. I am not a networking guru, nor do I want to become one to fix this problem. The best solution I found was from another frustrated Linksys by Cisco WRT310N router buyer who returned his in favor of a Netgear WNDR3700 and has not had any problems since. I'm going to return my POS router tonight!
Come on Linksys, your better than this. Feb 21, 2010 I own this router. I bought it for the speed. It is fast and easy to initially set up, however don't plan on changing settings. I tried to change my hex keys so people that had them couldn't connect any longer, when I did it would not save the settings. I tried everything, including calling red dot India, aka Linksys tech support. If you are able to make out what the "tech" is saying (good luck), they are going to tell you to reset it (DUH, MORON). When that doesn't work they are going to try to SELL you tech support. SELL me tech support?!?!?!?! Are you kidding? I paid for your product and it doesn't work right, FIX IT! It was not a hardware problem, but they refused to correct the software or firmware problem. I reset it to factory settings and now can't enable security. I can now connect, but my network which I do personal and business banking from is not secure. Thanks Linksys. I can't change security settings, I can't even change the time zone settings. What a disappointment. Save your money, buy something else and don't pay for the product twice. Once to get it home and a second to get some tech in India stealing our jobs to make it work right.
this is total junk Feb 01, 2010 I have LinkSys WRT54G and works fine, but I like to have wireless_N and Gigabit. So, I bought this junk a year ago on black Friday. From the beginning, the connection dropped several times every hour and the unit is very hot. I read some review and stand the router up, but it does not help. I also tried upgrading firmware. No use. My computer connect to the router through wire and it works fine. After almost one year, the wireless connection issue got so bad that all my kids and my wife are asking me to fix the problem because it only last several minutes and they have to reconnect again and again. The wired connection of my computer also start to have connection issue. I finally switch back to WRT54g, everything back to normal, and lose connection is totally gone. Check the internet to see how much trouble this model has. Forget to solve the heat issue by standing the unit up, put something to elevate it, or add heat conducting material underneath. I tried all that. It will not solve the heat issue and lose connection. They are all something people wish to could work and eventually the unit just stop working.
I used to have such a good impression of LinkSys because of WRT54G. Now, it is totally ruined. I believe the company is producing junk and tried to make money out of it. I am sill looking wireless N Gigabit router, but will never buy LinkSys.
Useless Jan 16, 2010 When I decided to buy a new wireless router, I told myself that Linksys couldn't be a bad choice, as it's a Cisco company. I wanted to avoid D-Link, because I had problems with a wifi usb adapter in the past.
So, one year ago I bought the wrt310n (first version), and installed everything. The wired network was working fine and fast, thanks to the 4 Gigabit ports. At that time I didn't enable the wireless network, because I just had moved to a new house, and all my computers were in the same room. The only problem I noticed, is that the router just stopped working from time to time, when doing some intensive downloading. Perhaps this was related with overheating, but as I'm not a big downloader, this wasn't very annoying.
Some months ago, I tried to stream movies to my Xbox 360 trough the wireless network. I didn't work. After many sleepless nights (I'm a very stuborn person) trying every possible configuration, I had to surrender.
A week ago, I bough a netbook for my wife, and I noticed that the wifi connection droped everytime I tried to transfer huge files. I decided to check with another computer, and I found the same problem. After two nights trying many configurations, I decided to buy a new router.
I installed the Belkin N1 Vision (Version 2000), and everything worked perfectly right out of the box, il less than 10 mn.
Perhaps I just got bad luck, but buying that WRT310n was with no doubt a waste of time and money.
DOES NOT WORK WITH IPHONE OR TOUCH Jan 09, 2010 This router would be perfect for me if not for the fact that it isn't compatible with an iPhone or iTouch. I love the gigabit ports for the fact that my PS3 is hardwired to it. I bought it and set it up today...my desktop is wireless and that was set up in seconds with Windows 7.
I couldn't get my iPhone to work though by putting the key in. I finally called and Linksys told me that the 310N is not compatible with the new apple devices because they run off of 5ghz frequencies. This is pretty much a deal killer for me (2 iPhones in the house)...and now I'll have to go get the 400N, but that doesn't have gigabit ports for my PS3....ugh. I might look at a different brand now.
I couldn't find a review anywhere mentioning that the 310N wasn't compatible...I did a lot of reviewing before buying. Hopefully this helps someone else.
