It will completely die after a few months Mar 17, 2010 I had purchased this router and it worked perfectly for about 6 months and then it suddenly stopped working. Not even the direct network cable connections would work. I ordered a replacement since it was still on Warranty. The second unit has stopped working as well after a few months. Unit is completely dead. I read some of the other reviews here and there seem to be several people with the same issue. Buyers beware.
Links review Mar 15, 2010 It's a good router for the money. No problems hooking it up - everything was a snap. Even my wireless phone can pick up a wireless signal anywhere in the house. I do have 1 small complaint though; I wish I could turn off the wireless function. I mainly use the wired ports. That's why I gave it only 2 stars for "Features". I gave 3 stars for "Customer Support" only because I haven't used them yet - so that's really a good thing.
Linksys WRT110-N Wireless Router Feb 13, 2010 I had my WRT110 for two years. My home network began with my Dell Dimension 4700 desktop PC, an HP Laptop, and a Lexmark 95xx printer. I never did get the printer to work wireless, and I just let it go for a long time. About 6 months ago I bought a new HP Laptop - Entertainment PC with Windows 7, and I had my Dell also upgraded to Windows 7 by a professional consultant. I replaced my old Lexmark printer with a model X7675, and also purchased an HP C309a PhotoSmart printer. Both printers have built-in wireless capability. I recently added a PS3 250 GB gaming system. So my home network comprises these components plus a Minolta 1350W b&w laser printer connected directly to my PC (The Minolta has been my workhorse for over 6 years, and I love it, but just isn't wireless capable). My ISP is Wildblue Satellite.
Back to the WRT110. My laptop and both wireless printers jumped right onto my WiFi network with no problem during initial set ups done at different times, as did my PS3. I rate Ease of Setup a 5.
Ease of use is nearly that of ease of setup. I rate it four because I have always had to occasionally reset the router and could never trace the problem to a root cause. It was an irritant but I accepted this as part of owning this good but imperfect technology.
Reliability is a different matter. Beginning a few weeks ago, I could not access the Internet when I first turned on my computers. I would invariably have to cold boot the router (by removing the power, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in) This happened more and more frequently until finally this week it quit altogether. I upgraded the firmware, re-established my old configuration, and everything worked fine for about three hours, then died, and I could not revive it. I accessed the router via Internet Explorer and I double-checked my settings, but it would not access the Internet. I removed the router from my system, plugged my PC directly into the satellite modem, and I am on line with no problem. I rate reliability a 2 because this thing should have lasted more than two years, and there does not appear to be any diagnostics available that would help me resolve this problem. I can only conclude that the device is defective.
I rate Speed a 2 because it was slower than I would expect or need my home WiFi system to be. It was especially slow when trying to connect to the Net via PS3. I understand signal strength may affect this, but signal to my PS3 registered 95%-100%.
I rate Customer Support a 2 -- which is generous from me because I have found most online support to be worthless. Linksys' FAQ is as worthless as the rest of them. They do offer a chat mode, and I tried that, but ended up #57 in the queue and decided my time was more valuable than waiting for however long it would take for them to finally get to me.
Bottom line: I won't try to use my WRT110 again...it is going into the trash bin. I am now looking for a faster, more powerful replacement, and will consider another LINKSYS because I doubt for the price that they are any worse than the other router producers.
Don't buy this. Feb 10, 2010 This thing worked for 2 weeks; problems began arising after two weeks as it got really slow with a lot of packet loss. After 1 month it completely stopped working. Now, each time we want to use it we must turn it off for 1-2 weeks. I had other routers and modems before from different companies like Asus, this one was by far THE worst. Don't get fooled if you see it working at the first 2-3 days, it eventually will stop working.

Hopeful Fix Feb 03, 2010 I, too, was experiencing the frequent dropped connections with this router which I lived through for the last 6+ months (despite many efforts to troubleshoot, upgrade firmware, play with settings, etc). When it dropped, it would kick off all three of our computers connected wirelessly and our VoIP adapter which was even connected via cable directly to the router. Sometimes it happened randomly, while other times it would happen when I would bring up my laptop running Vista from hibernation or normal power-up. Last week, I finally came across an online thread somewhere (sorry, can't remember where or what Google search string I used) that recommended un-checking the box for IPv6 in my "Wireless Network Connection" Properties on my Vista (and Windows 7) computers. Since I made those changes 1 week ago, we haven't experienced a single drop! And these drops used to happen multiple times a day. So, I'm hopeful this may have fixed the problem--will update if anything changes. Thought I would share this tip given that so many people have reported the same experience. Good luck.
