Worst printer ever! Eats ink like a fat kid eats cake! Aug 14, 2010 I used to be a loyal customer of HP...until the HP 6380. It eats ink. I do not mean that you will have to replace your cartridges a couple of times a year. I mean you will have to change the cartridge every couple of projects. I just changed the yellow ink printed 3 sheets of paper and now it is telling me the yellow ink is low. Are you kidding??? I have had this printer for 18 months and it just gets worse! And it is $85 to replace all the ink. I feel like this is some kind of joke. Why would they put this on the market?
Also, I bought it to print wirelessly but when I tried to hook it up I got a blue screen and the printer was frozen. Frustrated, I had to ship it back to the manufacturer. They sent me a new one but the exact same thing happen. Customer service then told me I would not be able to print wirelessly unless I got a new router even though until that moment I had never had trouble with my current. I resigned myself that I would not have a wireless printer.
And the usability of the scanner leaves a lot to be desired. The bed of the scanner sits about a inch recessed down. So you can't scanner a document larger than 8x11", even a portion of it, because it is too far from the scan bed.
Now if you will excuse me I have to go be bitter.
Worst purchase ever Aug 03, 2010 I owned this printer for right under a year when it quit working. Very light usage of it; had no idea what would have caused it. After much reading about the error code on the internet, this printer apparently is well known for the printer head messing up. I really don't want to put more money into the printer (was $134 back when I bought it), so I'm just going to buy another printer. My previous one was a Lexmark that I never had an issue with...may go back to them. I know I'll never buy an HP printer again.
Make HP rich by buying ink cartridges Jul 22, 2010 I bought this about a year ago (not from Amazon). I'd previously owned smaller, simpler printers from Canon, but I was looking for something that would allow me to photocopy, scan documents (without buying a separate scanner), and print the occasional photo or other color document. Both my wife and I were starting school again and expecting to do a lot of printing, so we thought that this would be a good option for us. I'd also heard that HP printers were easier on ink, what a joke!!
Setting it up had a few snafus, but I managed to get it working without calling support. For some reason the HP C6380 disappears from my list of printers and I must re-add it, though this really isn't that difficult using the software that came with it. It isn't really a re-install and it takes very little time, but it is annoying. My wife and I really like the wireless aspect.
I'm certain that it is cheaper to run to Target, Wal-Mart or a pharmacy and print better quality photos than to use this printer. We don't print photos every day, and it seems that the ink dries out pretty quickly. So that we put in new color cartridges and within a month they are low, even if we've only printed 1 or 2 photos.
With printing text, which is what we do most often as we are both writing papers for school, we have the same problem. When there is a break from school, within weeks the BW cartridge has dried out and we get maybe 50 pages for one $40 cartridge. When printing more regularly, we do get 30 or so more pages from the same cartridge.
We will be buying another printer, as we cannot afford to keep buying ink at this rate. If there was a rating below 1 star, that it what I would give it. I will never buy another HP printer!

Don't Buy this or any new HP!!!!! Jul 14, 2010 I was very excited to have a new HP because I have used them and loved them. I was shocked to find out that it only prints a few pages at a time. I am a college student and can't ever print my homework at home. It will print 20 pages then it starts to fade. I am not exagerating. It is a pretty desk ornament. The quality is great when it does print but I don't have time to run to the store everytime I want to print an entire paper. I wish I had read the reviews on HP printers before purchasing this. I even found one instance where HP is being sued because of issues with printer ink issues. Please do your research and get something when better ink comsumption. I would take one of the old school printers with ribbon from the 80s over the thing and I am not joking.
Horrible Jul 08, 2010 I am a college student, and I have to say that this printer caused me exponential amounts of stress.
I bought this printer for its fast print speeds, all the features, and the 5 ink cartridges (and the Office Max guy recommended it). Alright, so it does print fast, when it's awake. HP has integrated this power save thing, which is the worst thing EVER!!!!!!
Example: Printing a document from the computer
Just as a note, printer preparation is where it aligns the ink cartridges or something and makes a whole lot of noise. Oh, and if you try to hit "cancel" or any other button, the printer complains and tells you to stop pressing buttons during printer preparation.
I hit print from my computer --> printer turns on --> printer preparation --> still printer preparation --> continuing with the printer preparation --> prints document (really fast). Almost impossible to cancel the printing of a document from the printer before at least one whole page is printed (on fast draft, and believe me, I've tried).
Summary: Printing speed = fast. Printer preparation and time to get to the act of printing = painfully slow and aggravating.
Example: Scanning a document from the printer
Lets say I want to scan something. Press power button on printer --> printer preparation --> printer preparation --> --> printer preparation --> Press scan button --> warming up lamp --> warming up lamp --> place document on scanner, select scanning options, and press "okay" or "enter" or whatever button it is --> scans the document --> goes to sleep. If you want to scan more than one page, you'll be sitting in front of the printer for a while because the printer turns off after every page, or at least needs to go through printer preparation all over again. It is very frustrating and has resulted in me almost smashing my printer into smithereens.
Summary: Scanning one document = average to a little above average on the effort and headache meter. Scanning more than one page = a horrible and dreadful experience.
Then there's the sheer size of this thing. This is a MASSIVE printer! Especially since the tray that holds your just printed documents, does not fold up. So you have the mass that is the main part of the printer, then this awkward plastic bit hanging out the front.
I liked how you could customize different printing settings, like fast draft and black ink cartridge only (so you don't waste your color ink printing plain text) except you cannot set it as your default. This means you can't just hit the little "print" button and expect it to print the way you want it, you have to go through the printer settings every time. AWESOME!
The printer is also kinda loud. Everything it does it has to be done as loud as possible.
Ink is cheap and freakishly easy to replace/change though. That's about the only thing this printer has going for it.
I'm not just an HP hater. We have an HP at my house that we've had for almost 5 years now and I love it. It prints when I want it to, not 2 minutes later. It's quite. Scanning multiple pages is easy and not very time consuming. No headache or frustration required.
Basically, this power save thing is the worst thing ever, unless you only use your printer once every other month. Otherwise it's just a HUGE pain to deal with. I rather just turn my printer on and off manually or leave it on.
