 Worst printer ever!!! Sep 07, 2010
Always says it has a paper jam even though no paper is in it. Never been able to scan, terrible prints, copies are no good, paper feeder for fax never works, sucks up the ink, wifi has never worked either. I know another person who has this printer and they say the same thing. I like HP but this is the WORST PRINTER, FAX, COPY, SCANNER EVER!!!!!
 Wireless scanner doesn't work with Windows 7 - 64 bit Sep 07, 2010
I bought this all in one printer months ago when I was using a 3-year old Sony Vaio laptop and wanted to upgrade my home printer. The laptop originally came with Vista and I had upgraded it to Windows 7 32-bit. The software installed fine, connected to my router, and I had no issues printing, scanning or faxing wirelessly. I should mention I don't print or scan a lot, I just bought this unit for home, but didn't have jamming problems as others here have reported. Recently I sold the laptop and bought a Gateway all in one computer that has Windows 7 64-bit, and installed the software for the printer. After installation, I got an error message that there was a problem communicating with the scanner. The HP J4680 printer has some sort of TWAIN driver issue that will not allow it to communicate with the HP Solutions software. Wireless printing works fine. I've tried updating the drivers and software and have been all over the net looking for help, but the HP Solutions software fails to detect the scanner. The scanner is not broken because I'm able to scan wirelessly using Windows Fax & Scan, but this program won't save a file as a pdf. So now if I want a pdf, I have to scan as a tiff and then open Word and convert to the file as a pdf. and save that. I shouldn't have to do this.
So after literally hours and hours of trying to fix this and reading others with the same problem, basically it comes down to HP hasn't gotten the scan drivers working for Windows 7 64-bit. So if your computer is running this OS, do not buy this printer if you want the wireless scanning feature. I suppose now my only option is to get on the phone with HP, but I'm sick of dealing with this problem.

It was very easy to set up. I used a hard line to the computer, so I don't know about the wireless setup. Printer arrived very quickly too. Haven't had any issues with it yet. Happy with product.

Not a horrible printer, ours has worked for several years; but the toner cartridges are ridiculously expensive, Consumer Reports even did an expose on how they have designed the cartridges to look like they have more in them then they do. Cheap printers don't always save money, especially now that lots of places won't refill this model.

Bought this as part of an HP package deal. I bought it for the wireless feature. Setup was time consuming, the wireless function is practically useless, and the display is very poor. You never know if it will print and it rarely does. When it won't you have to go into task manager to get it to stop trying because the program won't shut off. Wish I had seen all these negative reviews beforehand. Avoid at all costs.
