This printer was sold to me as a used item, but the merchant didn't deliver the cartrdiges calaiming that it would make shipment heavier and it would cost him a lot more money to ship therefore "as he claims"he dumped them in the trash , knowing that the cartidges for this particular printer cost alot more than than printer almost $ 450.00. He asked moe to write him a nice review and he would credit my account $ 50.00 if I do so, but I prefer to say the truth and lose the $ 50.00.

 Great Printer if you change a few settings Oct 13, 2009
This a Great Laser Printer if you just need to do some printing that doesnt need the high quality you would get from a high end inkjet. I find the quality if fine for printing google maps, word docs, excel, powerpoints and webpages its only ok when it comes to printing photos but if you want to print photos get a inkjet as that is what they are good for. LaserJets are good for if you print a lot and want to save on the cost of toner/ink. Also many say this printer goes through toner fast, it doesnt you just need to disable the Stop At Out feature by making it OverRide Out instead and then all you wasted toner issues magically go away, oh and did I mention its really easy to do? Well it is I will just quote this from another reviewer:
"Configuration
Cartridge Out Override can only be enabled from the printer's control panel menu.
1. From the main menu, press (RIGHT ARROW) to System setup and press (SELECT).
2. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Print quality and press (SELECT).
3. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Replace supplies and press (SELECT).
4. Press (RIGHT ARROW) to Override out and press (SELECT).
5. Press (SELECT).
If Stop at out is selected, the printer will stop printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. If Override out is selected, the printer will continue
printing when a cartridge reaches the recommended replacement point. The factory default setting is Stop at out."
Follow those steps and you will have no more wasted toner. Enjoy, this is a great printer and it can be found for a good price just look around. This should suit most people who just want print as most people only need 600dpi!

Great-IF You love wasting paper, ink, and money. Aug 13, 2009
I suppose its my own fault for taking so many chances with HP Printers. The one I use at home installed drivers that were incompatible - nay ruined my ability to print at work. Another wouldnt let you print if the toner cartridge was half full, and this one isnt much different...
Biggest Problems: Goes through toner exceptionally fast. Probably because it leaves streaks on most glossy pages and many things have to be printed twice. The Manual Feed Tray works roughly 30% of the time- Usually it takes in the avery sheets and instead of printing onto the labels, it kindly prints them on normal paper and cycles my label sheet through the machine - coming out blank. At least this helps to get rid of the $100+ ink cartridges i bought though. Oh yeah that's per cartridge...and I think HP says OEM/3rd party voids the warranty. They also come a quarter filled when you buy this machine. I could go on...
Don't be suckered into buying HP Printers. Period.

Because of the good reviews from everyone else, I thought that this would be a great printer, but it did not live up to my expectations. Its pretty loud, leaves toner streaks, and most importantly, the print quality is not good, and we have tried different things, like special paper. Which means that you can't print good quality brochures with it.
I used to think that all HP products were great, but the more experience that I have with them, the more that I realize how bad they really are, including their support. I have had much better luck with Brother products and I wish I would have spent more and gotten the Brother MFC-9840, which is an all-in-one color laser.

Great printer - not for photos Jun 19, 2009
We have had this printer for a few years. I actually bought a second because it was cheeper than replacing all of the tonors. The best part is that it comes with full versions of all of the different color tonors. It is pretty fast, has pleanty of memory and the print quality is terrific. I never had a paper jam or any problem at all. The only weird thing is that it randomly goes through some type of a priming procedure that can be a bit loud in the middle of the night.
There is a newer model that I would probably buy next time, but there really was nothing wrong with this one. Oh, don't forget it is quite large.
