Terrible Printer Dec 17, 2008 We have had several color printers over the years and this is the worst by far. Problems include:
- If there are fewer than 4-5 pieces of paper, the printer thinks it is out of paper.
- If there are more than 4-5, it jams.
- When trying to print to glossy photo paper, the printer takes multiple sheets and jams -- we have given up on trying to print to glossy paper.
- Even after running the routine to clean the print heads, the ink streaks terribly.
- Driver continually tries to re-install itself and create multiple copies of the printer.
We have had other -- and cheaper -- HP printers which we loved. This one is a dog, though!
Don't do it... unless you want to have to forcefeed it. Dec 14, 2008 I have gone through three of these printers. All with the same issue of out of paper, load paper face down. It has paper in it. It fails at trying to grab the paper. So if you want to force feed a printer, then get it. Now the third printer is the worst one ever. It now decided to jam and eat all my paper. I am going to go OfficeSpace on this printer if HP(I got it from them directly) does not give me my money back for it. Either that or take it to the local goodwill. I don't want anyone else to have to deal with this headache. I saw an Epson NX200 at my local retailer. It will do the same thing, minus being networked. But if you hook it up to a computer that serves has your "gateway" computer then you will be able to print from other computers.
So DON'T do it. Matter in fact do your research, the photosmart line is terrible IMHO.
Initial Experience Not Favorable Dec 11, 2008 HP C6280 Photosmart All-in-One Printer (CC988A#ABA)
I am an intermediate computer user and I have had this product for one week and have a number of conflicts with my Windows Vista OS. MS Office 2007 quits abruptly because of a conflict with HP software. MS Word doesn't respond and refuses to close, and I am unable to close all programs and reboot the computer. This all began upon installation of this device. I never had such events with my Epson printers.
Having said that, the quality of the prints and other features of the machine are good.
Stay away from this printer!! Nov 14, 2008 This is one of the worst printers I have ever purchased. First off, the HP paper that came with the printer jams very easily. Second, sometimes when I remove the jammed paper, the printer prints everything all over again. So when I had a 15 page report, I think used more than 25 pages. Third, the ink runs out too quickly. I brought new ink a month ago, and now I need more ink. It sucks to be a student that needs to print reports.

"Office Space" ending for this printer. Oct 23, 2008 The Highs:
-Prints on both sides automatically (if you set it to do so).
-Wireless printing.
-Print quality, even on draft settings, is very good.
The Lows:
-Loud. Extremely loud. Loudest printer I've ever heard.
-Slow. Very slow. Slowest printer I've ever used.
-Paper jams. Many paper jams. A paper jam every time I print.
-Software takes half an hour to install and is very buggy.
The Verdict:
No level of print quality is worth this much frustration.
When I first installed this printer, the software took at least 20 minutes to install. This wouldn't be a bad thing in itself but in light of how poorly the software operates, it's unacceptable. The software also has a tendency to uninstall itself unless you perform a manual update (even though it is supposed to automatically check for updates). On my computer, the pop-up that alerts you that the printer is connected will occasionally continue to give repeated alerts for several minutes.
The noise level is so high when printing that I try not to use it after my girlfriend has gone to sleep for fear of waking her.
The time between when the print job has been initiated to when the sheet actually comes out of the printer can sometimes be a few minutes. The printer has long, complex and noisy start-up and shutdown routines consisting of numerous whirs, buzzes and spinning motor sounds that it must perform for every print job.
