5Good value for features and quality  Jul 22, 2010
I've had this printer for over a year. It works very well. The built-in networking is a big plus. Print speed is what you'd expect for an inkjet. Print quality is very good. I like having separate color (3) and black cartridges. I've been using non-Brother inks and the quality is still good. The printer is quiet and fits well on the desk in our home office.

I use the copy feature once in a while and it works well. The automatic document feeder is a nice feature.

The scanner works well for documents and photographs. The colors aren't always EXACTLY as the original but that's easily corrected with software. I like the option of being able to set custom scan settings for jobs when I have to scan several similar documents to the same directory. Works great!

I don't have a land line so I don't use the Fax feature and can't say if that works well or not.

One thing that is a minor pain is printing photos. The regular paper has to be removed and then ONE piece of photo paper can be put in to print ONE photo. The photo quality is very good, but it's a pain to feed the paper. I usually opt to send to Walgreens and pay $.14 per print - on photo paper no less.

Overall this is a good printer. I think I paid less than $US 100 for it - a very good value.

4Nicely priced MFC  Apr 11, 2010
I purchased two of these for the multipage scanning only at the office and scanning/printing at home. I use adobe to backup a lot of documents and have found this to work pretty well. It isn't the fastest printer and I find it ridiculous that it will not let you print in black and white if you're out of any color ink. That is very frustrating. The print quality is nice though. I have not tried printing any pictures, only documents both in color and B&W. It does tend to pull multiple pages through the scanner at times. I will eventually upgrade to some type of multipage scanner which will hopefully be more efficient, hold more pages and do front/back all at once without the issue of multiple pages being pulled through together. It has done well for the initial reason I purchased it and the price was great at under $100 each.

5If you can still find this somewhere, buy it!  Apr 09, 2010
I got this for about $70 new. I've had it for almost 2 years now. All functions work perfectly, efficiently and inexpensively.
First, you can buy compatible ink for around $3-4 per cartridge!! These do not leak or damage the Brother machine. They last along time too. Print quality is awesome and it's very fast coming close to advertised speeds. I've used the scanner so many times and it's great, but a little slow depending on DPI chosen. The copier works fine and fast. The fax has also been incredible. The machine self cleans periodically and DOES NOT use much ink at all. I pray that this machine will last me for years. I should have bought 2 or 3 and stored them. I'll never get all this value again in a Japanese high quality product. Lastly, the machine looks like a $300 beautifully crafted office product. Great thing also you can choose different print qualities. Photo printing is better than expected, but takes a long time if printing on highest setting. Has so many functions that I've never used yet. I'll always stay with Brother. Before you buy a printer, make sure you find out how much compatible ink is!! If it's like 15-30/cartridge it is not worth it.

1Terrible Printer  Jan 12, 2010
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2D0DZTTMLOIRT This is hands down the worst printer I have ever owned. Not only does it drain ink quickly, it also has a paper jam every other print. I've only had this printer for a little over a month and its caused nothing but headaches.

This printer has caused me frustration to the point that I will never buy a Brothers product ever again.

3decent  Dec 24, 2009
i use primarily black ink. even so, it will tell me to replace the colored ink even when it's not full. This printer does will at making you shell out more money for ink cartridges. however, if you don't usually print color, might as well get a toner for a laserjet.

besdies that, it prints great photos when using the right paper. scan quality is good, but just very slow.
