5Incredible Design!  May 14, 2009
Super simple, sleek & easy! No software installation required. Out of the box and directly into the MBA USB.... done. Love it.

3Not so much a review, just a note...  Mar 10, 2009
I've realized something. As someone was so astute as to point out, other DVD drives that work with the air can be used with ANY usb slot... So I realized, perhaps that means they will work WITH a hub on the air? worthy of testing, surely, and if I get the chance, I will write a more informed review after having tested this. Thank you for mentioning how other usb DVD ports work in correlation (right usage of the word? maybe?) with Mac's "Superdrive". Perhaps not so super after all.

3Useful, but seldom used  Feb 07, 2009
I had a first-generation MacBook Air from their availability last February until last week. I acquired the new, improved second-generation MacBook Air eight days ago. Throughout, I've had a SuperDrive, two over the period.

I found the SuperDrive useful for loading software, not for playing DVDs with my original MacBook Air, but not due to a fault in the SuperDrive. The processor on my particular computer was never adequate for playing video for longer than a few minutes, if that. I am hoping to get more use out of the SuperDrive with the faster graphics chip in my new MacBook Air, since it plays video better.

My complaint about the SuperDrive is that the short connecting cable bends and breaks easily. I had to have one SuperDrive replaced for that reason. I recommend mainly using the SuperDrive at home on your desk, and, being very careful when carrying it in your case, so as not to stress the weak cable.

5A No-brainer purchase  Jan 20, 2009
Congratulations to Apple for making a smart, stylish, simple and practical drive that isn't even matched price-wise by any of the competition. Now that I have it, I'm trying to think of excuses to use it. Why is it we initially got all fussed up about its absence from the first Air? As others have mentioned, the cord is quite short--especially if you're one of those who likes to "lap-compute," with the burner six or more feet away from you on a table or nightstand. 'Fraid the little burner is likely to be flopping about the bed clothing in short order. If it proves too much of a distraction, couplers and extension cables are available. Look for the next edition to solve the problem with a longer, self-retracting cable. On the positive side, the permanent attachment of the cable to the burner is a nice touch, assuring, as would otherwise be inevitable, that it doesn't get misplaced or lost.

5A Must-Have  Dec 24, 2008
Lightweight. no software to install. just plug in. Good price. If you have a Mac Air, can't do w/o but that's the price you pay for the convenience of a tiny portable laptop
