Great for portable use Feb 25, 2010 I ordered this laptop a year ago. The laptop arrived in good condition and fast (thanks Amazon) and came with proper documentation, a storage sleeve, and restore disks (No cd drive to put them in though? Bootable flash drive would have been better).
The good:
This laptop is awesome. It is plenty powerful, light, great battery life (4.5-6 Hr, depending on task), and a superb screen. I ordered the 2GB memory upgrade and some extra SD storage, and have all my music, games, videos, SNES/NES emulator games, and documents on varying drives and devices. All work great. No stuttering on video or audio, no major glitches, and its quiet. It has held up great despite some hard transportation and a few hot days forgotten on the floorboard of the car. Its small, easy to carry, and goes through airport security quicker than I can get through the metal detector.
The bad:
The included version of Linux is beyond useless, buggy, and incomplete. it fails to update properly with security updates, which tend to break things instead of fix them. It is an extremely poor example of such a fine software system. It was quickly replaced by the Ubuntu Linux OS, which fully supports the EEE, and will install with a flash drive, no cd required. The speakers are tinny and quiet on most high-end audio/video tasks, and I recommend headphones. The sleek black finish, although pretty, smudges very easy, but they do give you an "eyeglass cleaning cloth" that works great.
The summary:
Minus one star for the crappy OS. Replace the OS with Ubuntu OS (google for instructions on how to do it with a flash drive, its easy as pie), and I recommend a good case. I frequently lend this laptop to people for short times, getting nothing but praise for it.

Small PC Feb 05, 2010 The eeepc is an average netbook computer. The screen, keyboard, and memory are small. Thus you are limited. For some dumb reason Asus decided to divide the 20 GB solid state drive into two drives, one being faster than the other. With the 6 cell battery and the solid state hard drive it does go almost all day on a charge.
keyboard throws monkey wrench into day-to-day use Nov 22, 2009 Since I took Typing class in school, I'm unable to be productive on the 901. It's back-assward key arrangement doubles the time it takes to create documents, slows down chat applications, and wipes out entire paragraphs with one slip of the finger. All because Asus decided it would be a good idea to swap the Shift and Page Up keys, my typing education works against me.
Asus won't produce a replacement board with the letters correctly arranged. Instead, they fixed that issue on later netbooks, but I don't feel I should have to purchase another computer for the sake of bad design. I wish I could swap this 901 for one of the 1001s that have a correct keyboard.
Eee PC Aug 29, 2009 Do yourself a favor and buy a real laptop. The key board is to small the Lenix OS is so poor it will make the simplest tasks very aggravating. You will be on the phone to technical support in the Philippines day after day. To install a simple dictionary function to Open Office on this system will take 17 steps! Buy it and you will regret it. The one good thing is the battery does last 6 hours +-.
Your PC away from home Jul 09, 2009 I am very satisfied with this netbook. For the money I paid and for its hardware characteristics it is a very good tool.
I give it only 4 stars because of the Xandros OS:
- the partition setup choice for the union file system is not the best: you either have to get rid of it or tweak it. Otherwise you can't install any of the upgrades
- the repositories are old and incomplete
