1disappointing  Feb 12, 2010
Had to return the product three times, paying shipping of 30$ twice, until replaced an obviously defective product. Classically poor phone support with language difficulties. Battery-of which I ended up with two, fully charged reads 5.2 and 4.15 hours battery life --tag right on the machine boasts 7 hours. Tech Support says no one else has ever complained get less than 7 hours. Lastly it is the worst I have ever had...... if not typing constantly, the curser bounces up 3-8 lines into the middle of word in another sentence ----almost impossible to use for note taking --really for anything .

2Buyer beware! According to Asus' senior tech, the $200 battery is only good "for about a year."  Jan 30, 2010
My Asus eee PC finally died. The battery fails to charge at all.

I owned it for 11 months, and used it once every two or three days for about an hour or two.

I would only charge the battery when it was drained to about 40%, as per Asus' recommendations. However, after about 3 - 4 months, I noticed it would only hold an 80% charge regardless of how long it was plugged in or how I used it.

When I first noticed that it wasn't holding a 100% charge, I would call their customer service line and would be disconnected after holding for 15 minutes. Their support manager confirmed this as an unfortunate, but normal practice due to "heavy call volume." When I originally called, the battery would have still been covered under the six month warranty.

The battery slowly degraded over the following months, and two weeks ago it wouldn't hold a charge over 47%.

Today, after finally getting through to customer service after a 30 minute hold time today, I was told by the first tier tech, the senior engineer, and his support manager that "batteries are a consumable, and only last about a year." New batteries for this model cost about $180 - $200 after tax/shipping.

If you see this happening in your Asus netbook, fight for a new battery as soon as it happens, regardless of what the tech support people tell you. Their system is designed to wait you out with poor customer service until the warranty period is no longer valid. And once the warranty is over, they'll laugh at you for trying to talk to a senior rep, who is ultimately unable to help replace the battery.

--

NOTE: I confirmed with their senior tech on duty that keeping it plugged in all the time when you're not using it will kill the battery considerably faster, and draining the battery to 0% before charging it will damage the battery (not like the old days, when batteries had "memories" if you charged them too soon).

1ONE STAR: A GIFT  Dec 28, 2009
Last January, I ordered a 1000HA for my wife. It arrived damaged; it would not boot up. Well, these things happen. So I returned it to ASUS for repair. When they failed to acknowledge receipt of netbook, I called the service number and was told that it had reached the repair shop in Indiana, had been fixed and would be returned shortly. I was unable to track the service on the ASUS website. A few days later, ASUS returned the computer. Now it wouldn't even turn on. I called again and was instructed to send it to California. They acknowledged receipt of the machine there, but then went silent. After a week or so, I called and discovered that the computer I sent to California was not the computer I had sent to Indiana. Apparently they had repaired my computer and sent it to someone else, returning to me another defective machine. However, since the serial number I had reported to California (which was the number of the original machine) did not match the number on the unit I sent them, the work order kept being tossed. They let the unit sit in the shop and wouldn't work on it. No one could or would make a decision. I called them four or five times over the next month and, finally, after going ballistic on the last call, they sent me a machine. I doubt if its the one I sent them. It works, probably as well as it can but really not that great. My wife doesn't like it.
The question to ask yourself is, with all the similar netbooks being sold by other, far more reliable vendors, do you really want to do business with ASUS? Its the last time I will.

1Beware of Warranty  Nov 19, 2009
The ac adapter failed and Wendy the supervisor at ASUS gave me the run-around and will not honor the 1 year warranty. The warranty card plainly states that the warranty covers everything but, the battery or free accessories such as mice or laptop bag. She says that excludes them from covering the AC adapter that is integral to using the laptop. I contend that the AC Adapter is not a free accessory. Wendy is at the Customer Support Line they keep putting in these review responses and their job is to tell you that your warranty does not mean what it reads. I believe they have made a business decision to not stand behind these because they have a high failure rate on the AC adapter. I believe it will cost them more in unhappy customers than they gain by cheating us out of our warranty. I have bought many ASUS products in the past and thought they were a reputable company. I can not recommend them in the future.

5Cool purchase  Nov 13, 2009
Netbook is a really good purchase when you're travelling. It's really light it has everything you need in 1 thing. I'd recommend it to everyone!
